Quotations
Our decision about energy will test the character of the American people and the ability of the President and the Congress to govern this nation. This difficult effort will be the "moral equivalent of war," except that we will be uniting our efforts to build and not to destroy. ATTRIBUTION: Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.) (b. 1924), U.S. president. Address to the Nation, April 18, 1977, quoted in Keeping Faith: Memoirs of a President, p. 91, New York: Bantam Books (1982).

  • August 7: Great day at our annual booth at the Clairemont Family Fun Day. Joined by candidates Howard Wayne and Francine Busby, along with Steve Rivera and Tim Orozco representing Howard Wayne and Toni Atkins.Stephen Whitburn dropped by too and we even had many other volunteers with one coming all the way from Ramona. Earlier this year we had booths at Linda Vista and University City as well.
  • July: Scott Tempesta, former "Scooter" in the old Air America days here in San Diego kept us all in stitches as he discussed the very serious issue of progressive radio today and the eventual transition of radio to computers. Just "google" progressive talk radion to listen to your old favorites. We also had the opportunity to hear from candidates Howard Wayne, Stephen Whitburn and John DeBeck.
June: Richard Barrera, President of the Board of Education for the SD Unified School District, spoke on the wonderful job teachers are doing to educate our children. But California's education is in crisis with larger classrooms. Future budget cuts will eventually result in a permanent divide between haves who will pay for private schools and small classes & those remaining in larger and larger classes. It is urgent that we elect Democrats who will fight for a strong public school system. Voted to endorse Howard Wayne along with ALL other Democrats who ran in the primary and will running off in the General Election. Keep your signs in your yard!
  • May: Jess Durfee, SDCDP Chair and DNC member, presented a report on our 2010 campaign efforts; San Diego County Superior Court incumbents Bob Longstreth and Lantz Lewis spoke about their races; and Anne Hoiberg from the League of Women Voters reviewed the State, County and City Propositions. Endorsed Francine Busby in her race for the 50th Congressional District, and three Superior Court candidates: Lantz Lewis, Bob Longstreth, and Joel Wohlfeil.
  • April: Professor Carl Luna who discussed prospects for the coming elections along with past and future trends. We also heard from Howard Wayne, Juan De Los Reyos and Stephen Whitburn.
  • March: John Hartley spoke about Clean Elections on the SD ballot in 1912. Greg Bolian spoke to vote Yes on Proposition 15, State Clean Elections experiment with Secretary of State Race only in 2010. Sheila Jackson spoke about the SD Unified School District and her Board of Supervisors Dist 4 race. Unfortunately Bob Filner was unable to attend.
  • February: Endorsed Kevin Beiser for SDCSD B and approved revision of bylaws.
  • January: Elected our officers for 2010: President Newt Ferris, VP Phyllis Mathis, Treasurer Maria Penny and Secretary Joe Schneider. Endorsed Toni Atkins for 76th Assembly District.

The Mesa Club helps the SDCDP continue to Increase our Blue Majority

The SDCDP Voter Registration Team has developed a new program to assure continued growth of Democrats in our County. Area Coordinators will be working with Club Coordinators to make sure our Democratic edge continues to grow. The Mesa Club has a history of volunteer accomplishments. Lets all do our share at: Monthly new citizen events, annual community events. This is a must to ensure continued progress in the 2010 elections.

The SDCDP Go-Team is continuing to expand, with more than 1,000 Precint Leaders already in place and more joining every day. We hope to have contact with every precinct by the 2010 elections. Many Mesa Club members already participate, won't you join us in the fun?

Times are tough, but it still takes $$$ to keep our SDCDP organization operational and successful. Please keep your DEM (Donate Every Month) donations $10/mo+ coming in automatically. We need your help. Please call 858-277-3367 to participate.

Remember, our County Party provides training, leadership, and logistical support for year-round programs including voter registration, precinct organizing, and community outreach.
